We strive to contribute to society under the corporate philosophy of “Chemistry to sustain the world.”

Since our founding in 1916, we have contributed to various industrial sectors as a trading company specializing in the distribution, manufacturing, and sales of industrial chemical products. Upholding our founding philosophy and core chemical technologies, we support our customers through highly specialized information and services. Across our business operations in Japan, we engage in every stage of the value chain—from basic chemical materials to advanced IT-related fields.

We have opened international offices in Southeast Asia, China, South Korea, and Taiwan as our strategic markets. In each area, we conduct timely sales and market research activities to meet needs of our globally expanding customers, as we are also actively involved in establishing overseas bases.

At Ohara, we are fully aware of the importance of our role as a trading company that specializes in chemical products used in industry. We are committed to promoting environmental protection, safety, and health throughout the entire lifecycle of the products that we handle—from distribution and usage to disposal—guided by our corporate motto of “Chemistry to sustain the world”. Corporate policy

Basic Policy on Corporate Ethics and Social Responsibilities

Ohara upholds the highest ethical standards and engages in honest, fair business practices. Through these efforts, we proactively contribute to society and fulfill our corporate social responsibilities.

  • We not only strictly comply with all laws and regulations relevant to our business activities, but also adhere to the norms and expectations of society.
  • Safety is our highest priority across all business operations.
  • We conduct our business with honesty and fairness, and never deviate from the norms and ethical standards of society.
  • We provide our business partners and consumers with accurate information regarding our products and services.
  • We fulfill our social responsibilities by respecting human rights and proactively participating in initiatives that contribute to the community and protect the environment, as a responsible corporate citizen.

Basic Policy on Creating Internal Control Systems

The following outlines the systems designed to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and the Articles of Incorporation by directors, as well as the proper conduct of all other operations.

  • We establish compliance rules to ensure that directors and employees perform their duties in accordance with laws, regulations, and the Articles of Incorporation, in order to fulfill their social responsibilities. These rules are thoroughly communicated through training and education.
  • Important decisions are made by the Board of Directors. Minutes of Board meetings are properly stored to maintain a record of decisions, and approval documents are managed appropriately.
  • We establish risk management rules. In addition, we build and operate systems to effectively manage risks.
  • We establish a medium-term management plan that clearly defines the corporate goals we aim to achieve, along with the roles, responsibilities, and authority of each director. It also specifes individual performance targets for each director.
  • Major corporate decisions are decided by consensus at the monthly Board of Directors meetings.
  • The executives responsible for compliance and risk management also oversee these functions at subsidiary companies.
  • Directors and employees report to the Board of Auditors any incident that could result in significant loss to the company, as well as any other event designated by the Board of Auditors as subject to mandatory reporting.
  • The President holds regular meetings with the Board of Auditors to ensure mutual understanding.

Basic Policy on Prohibiting Relationships with Anti-Social Forces

In accordance with the following Basic Policy, Ohara has severed all ties with anti-social forces and strictly prohibits the establishment of any such relationships in the future.

  • We do not engage in any relationships with anti-social forces, including business dealings. Furthermore, we never respond to improper demands made by such entities.
  • We do not provide any financial resources to anti-social forces under any circumstances.
  • In the event that we are subjected to improper demands from anti-social forces, we will respond appropriately as an organization.
  • We maintain close and ongoing relationships with specialized external organizations, including the police, the National Center for Removal of Criminal Organizations, and legal professionals.”
  • In the event that we are subjected to improper demands from anti-social forces, we will respond firmly by pursuing both civil and criminal legal action.

Basic Policy on Human Rights and Labor

As part of our social responsibility, Ohara is committed to respecting fundamental human rights across all of our business activities.

  • We support and respect the fundamental principles and rights related to human rights and labor, in line with global standards such as the United Nations International Bill of Human Rights and the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work — including freedom of association, the right to collective bargaining, the prohibition of forced labor, the abolition of child labor, and the elimination of discrimination in employment and occupation. In every country and region where we operate, we comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and rules concerning human rights and labor.

Ohara is fully committed to delivering activities, products, and services that align with our goals of preserving natural ecosystems and contributing to the improvement of the global environment through our business operations.

  • Leveraging our extensive experience as a specialized trading company in chemical products, we are committed to contributing to the improvement of the global environment by proposing the development of environmental recycling systems across a wide range of industries and by providing related activities, products, and services.
  • We are committed to continuously conserving energy and resources, while minimizing our own emissions and waste. At the same time, we strive to protect the environment by preventing pollution, taking proactive measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change, and preserving ecosystems.
  • In the course of our business activities, we comply not only with all applicable environmental laws and regulations, but also with our own internally established voluntary standards.
  • Based on our environmental policy, we establish and operate environmental management systems, striving for continuous improvement through regular reviews and enhancements of our environmental activities.
    This policy is documented and thoroughly communicated to all individuals working in or on behalf of our organization. We actively promote and maintain the policy, and make it readily available to third parties upon request.
